Scam Alert |
||
Dear Hertsmere Residents,
Hertfordshire Police is aware of a number of reports across Hertfordshire, of offenders pretending to be police officers asking residents to provide bank details or send large amounts of cash. This has cost residents large amounts of money.
I feel it is important to remind you that banks and the police will never ring you, ask you to verify your card details, PIN numbers, ask you to withdraw cash or purchase high-value goods. The police and banks will also never come to your home to collect cards, cash or purchased items.
An official police officer or member of your bank will respect your decision to check and allow you to call 101 or the bank to confirm their details or send you an email from an official police email address in the format (NAME.SURNAME or WARRANT NUMBER@FORCE.police.uk.) An offender is likely to object to you making any calls and put pressure on you to speak to them, then and there.
All fraud should be reported to Action Fraud in the first instance on 0300 123 2040 or online - Action Fraud (opens in a new window), unless a crime is in progress.
